Shantell Sans

Shantell Sans was designed by Simon Cozens working with artist Shantell Martin and released in 2022. The typeface is based directly on Martin's hand-drawn letterforms, capturing the intentional irregularities of her marker-on-paper drawing style: uneven baseline placement, varying stroke endings, and letterforms that read as drawn rather than constructed. Arrowtype (Stephen Nixon) developed the variable font engineering, which includes axes for bounce (vertical irregularity) and informality (stroke drawing character). The family covers six weights and italic counterparts. Its hand-lettered quality makes it appropriate for display use and informal editorial contexts; it is not a text face.
