Press Start 2P

Press Start 2P was designed by Cody Boisclair and first released in 2009. It is derived from the bitmap fonts used in Namco arcade hardware of the early 1980s. It is a strictly monospaced font constructed on an 8×8 pixel grid, with each glyph occupying the same advance width regardless of apparent visual width. The construction is not an interpretation of pixel aesthetics — it is a direct transcription of a specific hardware rendering style, which means it reads authentically in that context and reads as deliberate historical reference in others. Press Start 2P is a single Regular weight with no italic, no variable axis, and no additional weights. It covers Latin, Latin-extended, Cyrillic, Greek, and Cyrillic-extended. Best used at integer multiples of its design pixel size to preserve the grid construction.
