Bodoni Moda
Bodoni Moda was designed by Owen Earl at Indestructible Type and released in 2020 as a contemporary interpretation of the modern-face tradition associated with Giambattista Bodoni's late eighteenth-century types. The design is faithful to the essential characteristics of the genre — extreme stroke contrast, hairline serifs, and vertical stress — while its variable optical size axis allows the letterforms to adapt their proportions appropriately from display headline use down to text sizes. At large optical sizes the contrast is maximised for visual impact; at smaller settings the hairlines are thickened and spacing adjusted for readability. Six weights are available, with a full italic. The optical size axis is its defining technical feature, avoiding the aggressive hairline thinness that makes many digital Bodoni revivals fragile on screen. Its natural contexts are fashion editorials, luxury brand identities, and display typography where the modern-face genre is appropriate.
