Big Shoulders Display

Big Shoulders Display was designed by Patric King with Production Type and released in 2019. It is a condensed grotesque drawn from the industrial lettering traditions of Chicago signage and transportation graphics — wide shoulders on the uppercase, tight counters, and strong vertical stress. The family is part of a larger Big Shoulders system that includes a text cut and a separate condensed-display variant; this slug covers the display cut, optimised for use at large sizes. No italic is provided; the design is grounded in signage and lettering traditions that do not use one. The weight range runs from Thin to Black across nine steps.
