Atkinson Hyperlegible Next

Atkinson Hyperlegible Next was commissioned by the Braille Institute of America and released in 2024 as the expanded successor to the original Atkinson Hyperlegible. The design uses deliberate letterform differentiation — exaggerated counters, distinct descenders, and carefully varied character shapes — to reduce the likelihood of confusion between similar glyphs such as 1, l, and I. This version adds weights, variable-font axes, and extended language coverage while preserving the original accessibility intent.
